The beauty about fishing the Canal is even if you show up and the fishing isn’t fantastic, it wasn’t difficult to get to, and you can still probably catch a few fish.

Part of becoming a better fly fisherman is the "discovery stage”.

Any idea whether a trip to locks 7/8 today would be worth it? Or would the visibility likely be nada?

I wouldn't try it -- but the smaller streams should be decent.  They sort of go up and then down right as the big river is getting crappy.
