Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} 4MR Tilapia

Wow. I had no idea tilapia were in any of the Potomac tributaries.

Thanks for sharing!

Subject: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} 4MR Tilapia

Beautiful weather out on 4MR today. Water was crystal clear at high tide with fish higher up near Mt. Vernon Bridge which is quite unusual for this time of year.

The other strange thing was sight casting to tilapia with a size 14 pink Rainbow Warrior. At first I thought they were crappie by the depth of their body and they looked like a west coast surf perch through the clear water. The fly was dropped behind a worm as an indicator. When the worm moved back the hook was set. We landed 2 out of the 3 that ate. The fight was much stronger than expected on a 5wt. Several were at the outflow with a few more down river.

Loads of largies and red breast too with baby shad at the outflow at higher tide.
