Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Raft access for Shad?

Launching with a trailer at Fletchers is prohibited.  You can carry your raft from the lot down.

People will sometimes unlawfully open the gate or move the railroad ties that cordon off the lower parking area at the bottom of the cove and back down and dump their boats in the water there.

might just be no trailers in the lower parking lot where you have to deal with the tunnel

Hey Rob, are you talking trailers in general? is that noted somewhere? I've brought my yak trailer to fletchers a number of times over the years and have never been called on it.

Thanks

No trailers allowed at Fletchers. Closest ramp is Gravelly. You'd have to put in there and take the long ride up river.

If it works better for you location wise, you could also put your boat in on the Occoquan during the run.

You can just push your raft in at Fletchers where people put their kayaks in or pay use their ramp. I have a Flycraft but I end up just using the rowboats because it's so much easier to have them deal with the logistics (other than pulling my electric outboard on and off).

Hi everyone -

Looking for some advice as it relates to accessing the Potomac for the shad run with a raft (clearly I'm already getting excited about the spring).

I know the rowboats are available for rent from Fletchers, but does anyone use drift boat style rafts to fish shad? If so, do you launch them from the makeshift launch at the edge of the parking lot in Fletchers or another spot?

A buddy and I have a Stealthcraft Hooligan XL raft  and I was hoping to use it to get out there, but I know access is limited.  We plan to put an e-propulsion outboard on it soon, but I would love to avoid the long, slow ferry up river from Gravelly point if possible.

Any advice would certainly be appreciated.
