No need to bring your 7 weight. You'll want to throw the 9-weight. Bring sand eel and bunker patterns, as well as a few larger poppers in case you find blitzing fish. Of course, your standard clousers and deceivers will work too. Chartreuse is incredibly popular for stripers. If you're not fishing poppers, you'll want to give the fly plenty of time to sink. Sinking line is ideal, but you can still have success if you're patient with an intermediate. You'll always want moving tides. For time of day, early and late are generally better, but this time of year you can find them all day. When you're on the boat, be constantly scanning for birds and then keep an eye to see if they start diving with any frequency. If they do, they've found bait. And if you find bait, you find fish. Birds are the best fish finders on the market.

Question for the group,--I am staying at a house right on Ninigret Pond this weekend for a guys drinking/fishing weekend. I'll be the only fly angler in the group, everyone else will be chucking eels. We have a center console that's not ideal to fly fish from, but we'll hit several spots around the pond and inlet.I am bringing my 7 Wt with a floating line and my 9 weight with an intermediate line. That's all I've got to work with. I'm bringing my wading gear and stripping basket. Any thoughts on flies, times of day, tides, etc?Tim
