If you want the Shenandoah-style experience without the mountainous climb, you can drive down Rte. 209 towards Tom’s Creek. It’s a class A trout fishery, all C&R. Wild brook trout, and pretty little plunge pools. Bring the smallest line weight you have.
If you want the big water experience, drive Rte 6 W to 191 N about 40-45 minutes north to the West Branch Delaware downriver to Bard Parker. The entire river is open until October 15th (closed after to protect spawning trout), except where PA & NY share the river (PA gamelands). From there downriver to the junction pool (Bard Parker access) the river is open C&R only. Bring streamers, some bigger caddis, and a bunch of tiny Baetis. Be warned the D is not a river for pocket water nymphers. Bring your A-game.
Hope that helps.
