So I waded last Sunday in the Mattawoman creek off a street with public access just a bit north of the Smallwood State park.
Though night!!
some rain, windy, lots of vegetation, so I couldn't wade very far, my fly would get caught in the veg all the time, tried a popper...no fish... I saw/heard a few jumping way out there...
still a nice night out it's pretty nice and quiet over there

I have wade fished the area near the ramp. To the left of the ramps and around the foot bridge. They hold largemouth bass tournaments out of the park. They then release those fish near the launch. Therefore I have caught very nice bass there.Eric PackardArtist (I fish sometimes, too)Andy responded to my question, but he couldn't post it here, so here it is:HiI was wondering if it's possible to shore fish, wade, walk in the Mattowoman Creek. I went at Smallwood State Park, but I didn't see any places to wade. I don't really want to fish on the pier!!thanksHey Patrick - for some reason I can't reply-all to the group message so feel free to post this for everyone. I fished Mattawoman out of a john boat launched at Smallwood yesterday morning. I wasn't paying attention to the area directly around the launch but I think it's pretty shallow all around. To the immediate west of the launch there is a very shallow bay that extends up to a point at the mouth of the creek. That whole area is very shallow and filled with grass (the whole creek has a ton of submerged grass). If you can get from the launch into that bay I would think you can wade - I assume the bottom is pretty fork with all that grass. We saw 2 snakeheads in that bay and one took a pass at my frog rattler popper. Otherwise I caught 2 nice largemouth on game changers in a couple of hours of fishing further up the creek and my buddy fishing conventional caught 1 on a chatterbait. We saw a couple of other snakeheads but couldn't hook up.Fwiw I think all the fish in that creek are getting bombarded with whopper poppers and chatterbaits from the guys in bass boats and a fly presentation is something they're not seeing a lot of. Pretty cool place. Curious to know if you figure out how to wade it. Good luck!Andy---------- Forwarded message ---------
