{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Smallmouth near Fletchers?

Probably not worth the trouble if you are expecting great fishing but if you are looking to get out and wet a line why not?  I don't know how much fletchers charges for kayaks/canoes now, but I would do that and fish the VA shoreline.

Summertime fishing has been better in the canal than the river for me.

Obviously no wading in this stretch. My impression is that the Virginia side may be the better area for smallmouth, but I've never tried to fish from shore there.I know there's a trail that runs along the river (Potomac Heritage?), but I'm not quite sure where you can access it.

Plus, it doesn't look like there's any room for a backcast on most of the shoreline, even for spin fishermen. Maybe good Skagit casters can get a decent cast off?

Definitely not looking for any secrets -- just that I wish someone would dissuade me from even bothering if they know it ain't gonna be worth the trouble...

It was amazing fishing.  I decided to not get a guide, but did visit local fly shops for guidance, maps and to buy flies that would work locally.  I camped at the Beaverkill State Park on a site next to the Beaverkill river (which I fished each night before going to bed).  Fished a good part of the Beaverkill and Willowemoc and spend a few hours on the last day on the West Branch of the Delaware.  I did not catch fish in epic proportions, but I did catch each day and on each river, mostly browns and ranging from 6-8" wild browns to 18" whoppers.

If anyone wants specifics on where and how for the future, feel free to email me at grock...@gmail.com.  Keep an eye out for a blog post on the experience at www.therockettman.com/fishing.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Used Fishing Raft

Dear Colin,

I just wanted to say welcome to the area and to the group! I've found TPFR to be really welcoming and a great bunch of anglers who I've enjoyed getting to know through Beer Ties (which we hear are being revived) and especially "Casting Church" (every second Sunday from 8-11 at Fletchers Boathouse near Georgetown).

Hope to meet you in person soon.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Hodgeman Wadelite Men's Small (free)

Saw the buy/sell/trade group was down. I'm moving and found an old set of waders (Hodgeman Wadelite) that don't fit anymore. No wading belt. Men's small. Happy to give them away if anyone wants them. I'm located in Rosslyn, VA.

Hi Everyone,

Just moved to DC and came across this group. I am looking for a fishing raft to float some of the great rivers not too far away. Is anyone looking to part ways with a decent condition 12 foot or so raft? Looking for a 2-3 person raft like a stealth craft, outcast or any of the many competitors out there. As I live in DC the ability to deflate the raft and toss in the bed of my pick up/ stow away in a closet when not using is pretty essential.

Also do the canoe float rental companies on the rivers like the Shenandoah offer a car shuttle service (someone drives my car from the put in to the take out for a few dollars like many western rivers have) or a service to drive you back up to your car after?

Really excited to start exploring the area and hopefully will link up with a few of you on the water or over beers soon.

Colin
