Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Camping/Fishing Trip

I would check the TCO site for water conditions and temperature.

The State College streams are mostly limestoners right? Those should fish pretty well in summer. Inter alia, I suspect at least some of the far western MD streams are limestone-like, if only because there's a decent number of cave systems in that area.

Check out Western MD.  North Branch of Potomac (Barnum through Westernport) stays cold year round.  Also have the lower savage right next to the North Branch.  North Branch has wild rainbows, stocked rainbows, wild browns, and native brookies.  North Branch also holds some monster fish.  I landed a 21' brown in April while streamer fishing and my buddy landed a 24' brown right at the cabins in Barnum about 2 years back.  The wild rainbows there are some of the hardest fighting fish I have every caught.  Also have the upper savage and brookie tribs in the area, but those are probably too low this time of year.  Even so, there is more water in that area than you can cover in 3 days.

Other options for trout is the State College area.  I usually hit the little J, Spring Creek and Penns (all fairly close to eachother).  I did a solo trip to state college in mid-april and had a banner couple of days, landing well over 100 browns (a few pushing 20' out of Penns).  Not sure how it fishes in the summer.

Take a look at Pine Creek in Pennsylvania You can check with the Slate Run tackle shop in Slate Run for water conditions. I've fished up there, but earlier in the season when there's been more rain. You could probably get some more ideas if you spend some time perusing PA Fish & Boat Commission site, https://www.fishandboat.com/Fishing/Regulations/Pages/Trout-Regs.aspx

Hey all,

I am planning a trip and I was wondering if anyone had reccomendations. Some days next week have freed up and I figured that I would get out of town. I am giving myself a 5-6 hr radius (driving) for a 2-3 night trip. Does anyone have destinations in mind for a trip like this? I am relatively new to the DMV area, so any reccomendations/tips would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
Hayden
