{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Left Handed Fly Tyers

I am a lefty and I love the traveler and have used it for probably 20 years. I actually use the right hand version and it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I was told it was best to use the RH version to keep the knob out of the way.

I am looking at the Renzetti traveler and see it comes in a LH and RH.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Facial recognition for fish

In collaboration with the U.S. Geological Survey, which has provided a five-year grant, University of Virginia data scientist Sheng Li and his two research assistants are training a deep-learning algorithm to recognize nuances in individual fishes' faces and scale patterns.

We may finally know if the lunker we just caught is the small fish we released to grow and catch again.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Left Handed Fly Tyers

I am a lefty tyer and agree with Carl that some vices have levers on the side which can get in the way.  I like the traveler although I use another vice now for home tying (FNF).    I compensated for years (I started tying well before YouTube and taught myself from books) and am sure you also could manage but it is nice to have a vice that does not have a lever that gets in the way.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} CASTING CHURCH - Sun 11 Dec

1We will have our casting get together on Sunday, 11 Dec at Fletcher's Cove from 8am to 11am.

This Church will be free form, just working on whatever people would like.

Additionally, we will work on FFI Casting Skills challenges for anyone interested.

Come on out, whether you are a novice, intermediate, or advanced caster, it is all fun to work on solving casting problems and casting challenges, particularly for shad.
If you are just getting started, this is a great way to meet people who can help.  There will be casting instructors on hand.
If you are preparing for an upcoming trip and looking to re-fresh your casting skills, this is a great opportunity.

As of saturday there were nice fish still around.  Not sure how long they will stick around but i plan to fish through the next tide cycle at least.

Hey All,

I've caught schoolie stripers on spinning gear as late as November on the Tidal Potomac near Mount Vernon.  Is there any reasonable expectation and location to target them from shore on the big river during the Winter or should I just pack up the 7 and 8 wt. until the shad run next Spring?

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Tidal Potomac Resident Stripers

I don't think think you will catch them all winter, but the season is not done yet. I got three today on the potomac in about 45 minutes of fishing.  One over 23".  The cork is 10.5 inches for reference  striper.jpg

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Interested in posting a private sale

Sorry if this has been previously covered. I have tried to link to the buy-sell-trade site and it appears to have been either deleted or perhaps I do not have privilege? What link should I use to port a private sale?

Many thanks in advance,

Chuck Abbott
