{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Left Handed Fly Tyers

I am a lefty and I love the traveler and have used it for probably 20 years. I actually use the right hand version and it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I was told it was best to use the RH version to keep the knob out of the way.

I am a lefty tyer and agree with Carl that some vices have levers on the side which can get in the way. I like the traveler although I use another vice now for home tying (FNF). I compensated for years (I started tying well before YouTube and taught myself from books) and am sure you also could manage but it is nice to have a vice that does not have a lever that gets in the way.

I would avoid spending renzetti dollars until you have been tying for a while. I would get a vice that has the lever at the back of the head.

Pop by a fly shop or the beer tie and try a vise out.

What set-up and size flies are you throwing? What colors patterns?

What type of sink tip?

Personally- chasing stripers on the bay - I like to thro 8 and 9 wght rods - 2/0 , 3/0, 4/0 clousers and half and halfs. Crab colored clousers, chartreuse/white, olive/white.

ridge intermediate running line and tungsten shoots heads. T-11 and T -14.

the Orvis depth charge is a good line as well (imho)

The Monday following Casting Church, Monday 12 Dec will be our Beer-Tie at Colony Grill.

Come on out and meet your fellow anglers, bring your fly tying material and your fly tying questions.

Bring your fish stories. Also, we will have a few raffles for some fly rods, reels, fishing equipment.

Festivities begin at 7pm. Traditionally, this particular meeting is our holiday party, so go ahead and bring your friends and family.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} CASTING CHURCH - Sun 11 Dec

1We will have our casting get together on Sunday, 11 Dec at Fletcher's Cove from 8am to 11am.

This Church will be free form, just working on whatever people would like.

Additionally, we will work on FFI Casting Skills challenges for anyone interested.

Come on out, whether you are a novice, intermediate, or advanced caster, it is all fun to work on solving casting problems and casting challenges, particularly for shad.

If you are just getting started, this is a great way to meet people who can help. There will be casting instructors on hand.

If you are preparing for an upcoming trip and looking to re-fresh your casting skills, this is a great opportunity.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Tidal Potomac Resident Stripers

As of saturday there were nice fish still around. Not sure how long they will stick around but i plan to fish through the next tide cycle at least. I do not believe the fish i was catching were the "resident" fish that you see around at gravelly ect during the summer and fall. These fish were super fat and bigger which makes me think they were moving up the river.

I don't think think you will catch them all winter, but the season is not done yet. I got three today on the potomac in about 45 minutes of fishing. One over 23". The cork is 10.5 inches for reference

Hey Everyone,

Final Potomac Smallmouth Club meeting for 2022 at the McLean Government Center at 1437 Balls Hill Road in McLean, VA this Wednesday 11/30. It's annual Member Night. Doors open at 7:00PM. Come hungry we'll have some BBQ at 7:30, talk about changes to club meetings in 2023 and do some raffle prizes. In the past some has been fly fishing gear.

Sorry, no Zoom option or guest speaker this month. Let me know if you have questions.

I have caught Walleye, LMB, yellow perch, and fallfish below the dam. I never have seen or caught any trout, but the last time I was there was 2 years ago. honestly wouldn't be surprised if snakehead are there now too, and I have seen videos of someone catching pickerel just below the dam.

The Monday following Casting Church, Monday 14 November will be our Beer-Tie at Colony Grill.

Come on out and meet your fellow anglers, bring your fly tying material and your fly tying questions.

Bring your fish stories. Also, we will have a few raffles for some fly rods, reels, fishing equipment. I will post pictures of the gear this weekend.

Festivities begin at 7pm.

Board meeting at 6pm for TPFR board members.
