{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: 2014 Shad Run!

Was in town for a wedding this weekend and played hooky on Monday.

Woke up and rain was falling and it was cold so i decided to sleep in until high tide around 1pm.  Saw some sea lampreys on the shad cam and ran to the river.

Got to fletchers and there were ample boats available so I rowed out to the soft water below the point and started chucking shad flies hung below heavier streamers.  I only had intermediate line (forgot to pack the full sink) with a super fast sinking poly leader to help get me down.  I really think the depth was my main issue because boats around me were hooking up almost 6 to 1 compared to me.  They were hitting pink and red.  Everyone around me was having success on these colors.

Walked away landing this beauty, safely released with no harm.

Is this a Hickory Shad?  Always have trouble identifying them...
