RE: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: gar fishing

As a worthy re-mention, please remember to bring scissors with you when fishing rope flies for gar.

Often times the rope tangles their mouths so effectively when you release them they still can’t open their mouths.

Please be aware that this can be an issue for them if you’re not careful.

Very cool. I was fishing the outflow at GP on Saturday and had about 3-footer bump into my leg in the eddy by the bridge. He surprised me so much I just about peed my waders.

I've noticed a ton of gar in the water recently. So I went and tied up some rope flies on Saturday, picked up some 40 lb tippet, and spent Sunday afternoon sight casting to them from my SUP.  I hooked into 3 and landed 1.  They are tough to "hook", but chased the fly right up to the side of the boat, which was pretty entertaining.
