On solunar tables, I consider them a factor, but not the only factor to consider if I have the luxury of picking a specific fishing time. My exception is for musky fishing.  I've only seen/hooked musky during a forecast bite window and a full or new moon and I confirm those with a guide when scheduling for those fish.

Funny thing about the live web cams site. You can watch salmon river New York, exotic nature spots all over the world, and……the Reston town center. 


It’s going to be crowded and people will be in their spots by 4am. Even spots you walk 10-15 min will have folks lined up.

I have several SRNY podcasts you can learn from. Most recent was with Malinda from her fly shop in Altmar. Last weeks guest suggests you get a chicken parm at the Altmar Hotel.

Not sure what you meant by recommendations for access to fly fishing only portions. There is a lower and upper fly fishing only zones on the Salmon River. When you get up there, just get a map of the river, and finding those zones is a no brainer. They are well marked and easy access. My personal preference is for the upper zone. There several great fly fishing shops in the area that could probably give you good advice once you're up there,Whitaker in Pulaski and Malinda's Fly Shop in Altmar this shop is literally right across the street, from the lower fly zone on the Salmon River.

Ask anything: choosing a first rod, leaders and tippet, knots, flies, casting, reading water, where to fish, what gear you actually need, fish handling, etiquette, or why the hell your leader keeps turning into a bird's nest.

There are no dumb questions here.

If you're one of our more experienced anglers, check in occasionally and help somebody out. We all started somewhere, and one of the best things TPFR can offer is access to anglers who have already made the mistakes you're about to make.

And you don't have to be a newbie to ask a newbie question. Sometimes the supposedly obvious stuff is exactly what we never learned properly.
